Thank You!

Because of all your hard work, our campaign was victorious on Tuesday with 53% of the vote.  We won the majority of votes in Alexandria and Fairfax and came very close to winning in Prince William -- an incredible result all around.

I am honored to be able to serve the 39th District again in Richmond.  I promise to continue listening, and to continue getting things done on a wide variety of issues for Northern Virginia.  If you have any ideas for potential legislation, please send them my way before the next legislative session begins in January.  Some of the best ideas for my bills have originated from constituents.

Lastly, I would like to thank my incredible staff and the volunteers who donated time, money, support, and energy for their hand in this victory.  I truly could not have done it without you.

I look forward to working with you for the next four years.

Why is the Legislation Re-introducing HB 1440

Dear Senator Barker, I do not understand why a republican controlled legislation regardless of whether it is at the state or federal level feels the need to trample on the rights of a woman with these idiotic bills. The economy is hurting and outside of the Northern Virginia people are looking for work. With budget issues to include desperately needed infrastructure and road improvement projects for the state, why do we have to debate the point at which a fetus is considered a child? I personally do not subscribe to abortion but that is my belief. How in the hell can a male legislator such as Bob Marshall know or understand what is or is not best for a couple or a woman. If this mirrors the Mississippi law then it would force a woman to carry the child even in situations of rape, incest, and harm to the women. I understand the need for balance and to not use abortion as a type of birth control but let’s use some common sense. If the Republican legislation is so sure this is the will of the people put it on the ballot instead of trying to sneak it through under the radar. I have always understood the fine line that government has had to play in the lives of its citizens but radical laws born out a small well funded organization dictating to the masses from a strictly religious viewpoint is utterly wrong. I hope the majority of your time will continue to be utilized on the important issues, but I want you to be aware of serious “Republican Big Brother Government Intrusion”, in the name of God that we are looking at. It has eerie similarities to how fundamentalist Muslims have been able to use religion to dictate and control the masses. Just a thought and a viewpoint of a vet deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan who wants to raise his family in world where the people not government control how we live.
